St. Andrew Mission Hospital (SAMH)
Established in 1913, St. Andrew's Hospital in Singapore has a rich history of excellence in healthcare for more than a century. Originally founded in 1923 as St. Andrew's Mission Hospital (SAMH), its noble mission was to provide vital medical care to impoverished women and children living in the vibrant Chinatown area. Over the years, the hospital continued to expand its services, culminating in the opening of St. Andrew's Orthopedic Hospital in 1939, an important milestone as the community's first facility dedicated to treating childhood tuberculosis.
Throughout its development, St. Andrew's Hospital has received generous donations, particularly from the Lee Foundation established by the Singapore Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew in 1963 and the Rotary Club of Singapore, which facilitated the Basic Training, Education and Resource Center of establishment. Joining the Eastern Health Alliance in 2011 further solidified its commitment to collaborative health care planning. Fast forward to 2022, and together St. Andrew Mission Hospital (SAMH) and St. Andrew Community Hospital (SACS) provide care to more than 47,000 people, symbolizing an unwavering commitment to serving the health care needs of the community.
